I make films in West Wales which often centre around landscape and because of this I am interested in how filmmakers represent places. If film begins with the filmmaker and the subject is mediated through them - as I believe - notions around perception are of vital importance. I often consider the following senario; I'm shooting dolphins from a beach (with a camera I hasten to add), as I film them I do not see a body floating in the far corner of the frame of my camera. The body is there as I film but I don't see it because I'm watching dolphins. The first time I see the body is when I review the film at home, it is only then that I'm filled with fear, dread, disgust; on the beach I felt happy filming dolphins.
